The “Map” plan opens the waste blind spot in the north of the country! / “People” are the main pillar of waste management – rahnam

According to the social reporter of rahnam News Agency, the accumulation of garbage in the Hyrkan forests of the north of the country started about 50 years ago due to the challenges of basic burying and burning of waste in the northern provinces of the country, and the mountains of garbage, which now reach a height of more than 90 meters, are the result. Accumulation is not yesterday and today.

Due to the special topographic conditions, the proximity to the sea and the presence of many underground rivers and aquifers, the northern provinces of the country do not have the possibility of dumping waste in the usual way in other cities of the country, and as a result, we see the accumulation of a mountain of waste in the heart of the wild forests of the north of the country.

This accumulation of waste is increasing year by year due to the constant and variable increase in the population as well as the increase in per capita production of waste, and its consequences are becoming more serious; This problem has endangered not only the health of these forests but also the health of the residents around them.

Creating an unpleasant smell, making the landscape of the forest ugly, contracting various respiratory and skin diseases, and contaminating the soil and underground water sources are among the challenges that the accumulation of waste has brought to the Hyrkan forests and the local communities around it.

Leachates from these wastes flow down and destroy the hardiest trees and cause them to dry out.

64% of waste produced in these three provinces are buried in forests, 26% in rivers and 10% in pastures! Burying 64% of waste in the forest means the penetration of urban and rural waste pollution into underground water and water and soil pollution.

Considering the special conditions of the northern provinces of our country, it is necessary to drastically reduce the amount of waste produced for transportation to burial centers by changing the current consumption pattern, reducing waste production, reusing devices and fully implementing the waste separation plan from the source.

For this purpose, the Environmental Protection Organization, in cooperation with two non-governmental organizations, implemented a project called “MAP” (social waste management) as a pilot project in the villages of “Darab Kala” and “Delir” in Mazandaran province, as a result of which 70% of the waste The villages are reduced!

In the form of this project, popular organizations give the necessary training to the people of these two villages about the proper separation of waste. In the next step, large garbage bins are collected from those two villages and each family is given two separate bins for dry and wet garbage. People separate their wet and dry waste based on the training given to them and this waste is taken from them.

Wet waste is turned into compost in a farm around the village, and dry waste is also bought from people and they benefit from the material benefits of waste collection. Also, for the collection of dry waste, shops have been prepared in these areas under the name of “Mop”, where people deliver waste They earn points and receive goods with these points!

waste, environmental organization,

In relation to this matter, Dr. Ali Selajgeh; Vice President and Head of Environmental Protection Organization He told rahnam reporter: I believe that people, as producers of normal waste, are the most important pillar of its management. Waste is a capital and an income, and when people feel that waste has a price and value and brings them something, they will not throw away their capital in any way! This issue needs education to make it clear to the people.

He continued: We must design a people-based mechanism in the country and make people participate in waste management. In this regard, in the Environmental Protection Organization, with the help of a young ideator, a project called “size” (social management of waste) and this plan is implemented with the support of the National Environment Fund in areas of Mazandaran province, which has been very successful.

Referring to the problem of waste burial in the northern provinces of the country, the head of the Environmental Protection Organization said: Burial is no longer a popular and reasonable term, because waste is capital, and no one buries capital, but puts it in a flow and cycle to achieve profitability. . We must implement the map plan in the whole country and the work must start from the northern cities that have waste problems.

The vice president added: For example, the garbage of Amol city has wandered from all sides; On the other hand, they should not find their way through the dam and the three places proposed to create the waste site in this city are facing problems. In this regard, in the 47th meeting of the country’s waste management working group, I asked my colleagues to implement this plan in the form of zoning in Amel city.

Selajgeh added: Following the implementation of the mop plan in Kyakla, for every 10,000 tons of waste produced there, 8 people have direct employment; Household waste is purchased from those who have separate waste, and in a cycle without the need for a landfill, which makes the face of the city not ugly. These wastes come to a waste farm and become organic fertilizer that can be returned to the agricultural lands of the local people!

He reminded: In this plan, the profit is for the people and that’s why they came to work, even when the municipality suggested that we return the garbage cans to the city level, people stood up and stopped the work! The principle of this work is education and consideration of facilities for people to come to work.

The head of the environmental organization noted: We should not look for hard formulas for waste management, but one of the simplest formulas is this “map” that can replace social innovations with technical innovations.

The Vice President reminded: “MAP” is a people-based project that will be very profitable due to the prevention of water and soil pollution by leachate, no need to create compost factories, waste incinerators, collection machines, etc.
