In the afternoon of Monday, November 1st, a 3+3 format meeting of foreign ministers was held on the developments in the Caucasus, hosted by Tehran and attended by the foreign ministers of Iran, Russia, Turkey, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia.

This meeting began with the title “The turn of peace, cooperation and progress in the South Caucasus” and continued the meetings that have been held in the Caucasus region.

The most important goal of the formation of this format is to join the efforts of the countries of the region to solve intra-regional challenges and strengthen joint cooperation.

Previously, the first meeting of the 3+3 format to solve the Caucasus issues was held in Moscow in December 1400 with the participation of the Deputy Foreign Ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Russia and Turkey, and Alireza Haghigian, Assistant Minister and former Director General of Eurasia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran. attended this meeting. The participants in this meeting emphasized the need to implement the regional solution of the 3+3 group regarding South Caucasus issues.

It can be said that the Tehran summit was the highest level summit of the Caucasus countries in the past 3 decades.

In the past 3 decades, Iran has adopted a policy of non-participation and active presence in the Caucasus, and although it tried to mediate between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the first Karabakh war in the 1990s, the events of that time, such as the flare-up of the war at a time It was thought that the parties were close to peace in Tehran, Russia’s full-fledged role-playing as well as the formation of the Minsk Group led by Russia, America and France led Tehran to the conclusion that it cannot play much of a role in the Caucasus.
