The court of first instance in Slovakia found the defendant Alena Zsuzsová guilty of arranging the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak in a new trial, Ružena Sabová, president of the court panel of the Specialized Criminal Court, said during the reading of the verdict. Sabová will announce the amount of the imposed penalty at the end of the presented decision.
Zsuzsová is also guilty of participating in the preparations for the unfinished murders of former elite prosecutor and current Prosecutor General of Slovakia Maroš Žilinka, as well as another prosecutor.
In 2020, a specialized criminal court acquitted Zsuzsová in the case of Kuciak’s murder, a year later, this verdict was overturned by the Slovak Supreme Court. Forty-eight-year-old Zsuzsová, who is currently serving a long prison sentence for her involvement in another murder, did not attend the announcement of the verdict.
For the murder of Kuciak, during which his girlfriend Martina Kušnírová was also shot in 2018, three people, including the killer of the couple, are already serving long sentences in prison.
