Sweden’s ice hockey players won their fourth match at the World Championship when they outclassed newcomer Hungary 7:1 in the basic group A in Tampere. Thanks to this, they pulled within a point of the leading team of the USA group. The northerners led 6:1 after two thirds. Forward Jacob de la Rose scored twice, fullback Henrik Tömmernes scored four passes, forward Lucas Raymond scored a goal and assisted on two.
The Swedes, whose Nordic rival Finland has only taken a point away from them, decided right from the start of the match. Lindberg opened the scoring after 93 seconds. Then, although Tre kronor’s selection was weakened by a foul by Sörensen, the Northerners were still able to dismantle the Hungarians with a great action, which he ended with a great shot from the circle into the top corner of De la Rose. Moments later, Kiss took advantage of Swedish goalkeeper Wallstedt’s obscured vision to cheer up the Hungarians, but that was all from their side. Even before the break, Everberg returned the two-goal lead to the favourites.
While the opening act was won by the Swedes on shots between the sticks 15:9, the rest of the match completely turned into a game of cat and mouse. The favored Northerners completely dominated. They dominated the second period with accurate shots 19:0, the third 17:0 and a total of 51:9.
The Swedes also reflected their superiority in the score. In the 25th minute, Petersson shot past goalkeeper Horváth from the circle to the near post, and just a second before the end of the first of the penalties on the Hungarian side, he used a five-on-three power play. Another goal was added by Berggren in the 38th minute, and 43 seconds later de La Rose celebrated his second strike of the day.
The third 20-minute round was only played out of obligation. Nevertheless, Horváth took a liking to her. However, he only conceded once from the stick of Raymond, whose shot completed a great performance by fullback Tömmernes with his fourth recording.
