Markéta Vondroušová advanced to the round of 16 at the clay tournament in Rome. In a duel between two former semi-finalists, she defeated ninth-seeded Maria Sakkariová from Greece 7:5, 6:3.
Twenty-three-year-old Vondroušová was in control from the beginning in the first mutual duel with Sakkariová. Right at the start, she took the opponent’s serve, and although she was unable to complete the set at 5:4, she immediately took the lead again with another break and succeeded on the second attempt. In the second set, she already took care of her serve, tormented Barbora Strýcová from the 2nd round with precise forehands, and in an hour and a half, she converted the second match point on her opponent’s serve.
