Football Sparta Prague denied that its players Tomáš Čvančara and Jan Mejdr had tested positive for cocaine. The Letenský club announced today that it will file a criminal complaint due to the article that appeared on the Ruik.cz website on Friday.
“There was an irreversible attempt to damage the club and the players’ personal lives. The club will defend their interests with all available means,” Sparta said in a statement.
The article about the two football players’ alleged problems with drugs was removed from the website shortly after publication.
According to him, even Čvančara is being investigated by the police for drug trafficking, which Sparta also denied.
“The article was removed from all public platforms not long after publication, which in itself proves its lack of thought, mendacity and manipulativeness, however, in view of the immediate massive spread on social networks, irreversible damage was still caused. Therefore, the club will defend itself and file a criminal complaint ,” Sparta announced.
“This article has absolutely nothing to do with relevant journalistic work. However, it caused hatred and harmed the players and our club,” said Sparta’s communications director Ondřej Kasík.
Both players decided to undergo drug testing, according to a club statement. Čvančara’s test was negative. Mejdr will undergo it after Sunday’s match in Olomouc.
Čvančara last played on April 26 against Pilsen, since then he has been sidelined with a muscle injury.
In April, Sparta’s management removed midfielder Jakub Jankt from the team, who refused to submit to a drug test during a roadside inspection.
