Slavia footballers lost two important players. Lukáš Masopust and Peter Olayinka will no longer play this season.
Right back or midfielder Masopust and winger Olayinka suffered serious injuries in Sunday’s match of the last round of the regular season of the first league against Hradec Králové (1:1) and will not have time to recover not only for Wednesday’s domestic cup final in Sparta, but also in the subsequent five-round extension in top competition.
“Unfortunately, the season is over for Peter Olayinka and Lukáš Masopust,” confirmed the assistant coach of Slavia, Jaroslav Köstl, at the press conference before the cup final.
And it can be even worse for the red and white. “The other two players had an MRI today and we will see according to the results we receive during today,” admitted Köstl.
“We hope that the news there will be a little more favorable and hopefully there won’t be some fatal finding,” wished the associate of head coach Jindřich Trpišovský.
Olayinka suffered an injury during the first half against Hradec. The 27-year-old Nigerian winger scored 11 goals for Slavia in this league season and added four assists.
After the season, his contract in Eden expires and he will no longer play for the Vršovice team, which is second in the table by two points behind Sparta.
Recently, Masopust has been playing as a right stopper in Slavia’s three-back system. Against Hradec, he was injured after switching sides as a substitute.
In this league season, the 30-year-old defender has 19 starts with a balance of two goals and five assists.
In the last round of the regular season, Slavia lost first place in the table after a 1:1 draw with Hradec and the very controversial victory of Sparta in Liberec. At Letenská, they are now losing two points, and because of this, they will be playing with their rival at his stadium in the superstructure.
