Australian jockey Dean Holland has succumbed to injuries sustained in a fall during a race at Donald, Victoria today.
Despite the intervention of rescuers, the 34-year-old rider died immediately after the accident, in which his horse veered off the track and crashed into a safety barrier, according to Reuters.
Another rider, Alana Kelly, was involved in the fall and escaped without serious injuries, as did both horses.
Holland won 1,080 races during his career. He won the Newmarket Handicap in Melbourne last month with In Secret. He won the Adelaide Cup in 2015 and 2019.
