Diesel in the Czech Republic is the cheapest in a year and a half. Over the last week, its average price fell by 38 halers to 34.06 crowns per liter. On the contrary, compared to the previous Wednesday, gasoline rose by 24 halers to 37.87 crowns, making it the most expensive in the last two and a half months. This is according to data from CCS, which tracks prices.
The cheapest gasoline is currently filled by drivers in the South Bohemian and Hradec Králové regions, where a liter costs 37.55 crowns on average. Diesel is the cheapest in the South Bohemian Region, a liter is sold there for an average of 33.27 CZK. On the contrary, the most expensive fuel is offered by pumps in Prague. A liter of natural costs an average of 38.97 crowns in the metropolis. Motorists in the capital fill up with diesel for an average of CZK 36.20.
Diesel prices in the Czech Republic have been falling for two and a half months, with the exception of the week at the turn of March and April. It also made gasoline cheaper for most of February and March, but in the last week of March the trend reversed and the price has been rising ever since.
The lower price of diesel fuel at gas stations is also helped by a reduced consumption tax of CZK 1.50 per liter. The measure, which was introduced by the government last June in an attempt to reduce high fuel prices after the outbreak of war in Ukraine, is to be in effect until the end of this year. Originally, the excise tax was also lower for gasoline, but it was increased back to the original value at the beginning of last October. Transport Minister Martin Kupka (ODS) said at a congress in Čestlice near Prague on Wednesday that fuel prices are no longer a threat to carriers, the market has been stabilized. According to him, margin controls also contributed to this.
Gasoline is currently about 4.60 kroner per liter cheaper than a year ago. At that time, motorists paid almost 11 kroner per liter more for diesel than they do now.
