The title Personality of Czech Photography for the year 2022 was awarded to the reporter of the Czech Press Office, Roman Vondrouš. It was awarded by the Association of Professional Photographers. She honored critic Daniela Mrázková for her long-term contribution to Czech photography and also awarded prizes to young photographers. The judges chose Bára Prášilová’s book Circles as the best photographic publication of the year. The announcement took place on Saturday, April 15.
“Roman Vondrouš is a great photojournalist, his style is characteristic and unmistakable,” said Veronika Souralová, director of Czech Photo, who together with photographer and teacher Josef Moucha nominated Vondrouš for the award. Moucha added that Vondrouš consistently contributes to the quality, development and promotion of Czech culture in our country and abroad through presentations of author’s works. Out of the number of nominees, the jury of the competition chose Vondrouš as the winner.
The jury awarded the prize for long-term contribution to Czech photography to Daniele Mrázková. “He has long been one of the most important personalities of Czech and Czechoslovakian photography,” said jury member, photographer Dana Kyndrová.
In the Photographic Publication of 2022 category, the jury awarded Bára Prášilová’s book Circles. It is a selection from almost fifteen years of work by this author. “Her work successfully and with a certain dose of humor and even surreal irony combines elements of top advertising and art photography, without the author resigning herself to rigorous preparation and the perfection of the resulting image,” said Jan Pohribný, who nominated the book and who is the president of the organizing association.
Julie Hrnčířová was awarded the title Personality of Young Czech Photography under 30, second place went to Petra Bašňáková and third place went to Hiep Duong Chi.
