Twitter now has 1,500 employees, according to Elon Musk. When he bought the company last year, it had almost 8,000. In an interview with the BBC, Musk also stated that most of the advertisers have returned to the social network of the same name, and it is now “at zero” in terms of income and expenses.
Asked if it was difficult to fire so many people, Musk said it was “not fun at all” and sometimes it could be “painful”. He also noted that he did not fire all the employees himself.
In a lengthy interview, he further stated that Twitter now has the most users it has ever had. If someone offered him $44 billion for the company, which is the same amount he bought it for, he said he would only sell it if the buyer was “as dedicated to telling the truth” as he is.
When asked if he regrets buying Twitter, he replied that “it was not a party” and “the level of pain was extremely high”. According to him, the last few months were indeed quite stressful, but the purchase of the company was the right one. Of course, many mistakes would be found, he thinks. “But all’s well that ends well, I feel we’re going in the right direction.”
