He stepped on a mine and lost his leg. Even so, 20-year-old Ukrainian soldier Danylo Litvinenko cannot wait to return to the fight on the eastern front of Ukraine. I’m not doing it for myself, but for Ukraine and for my family, says the determined young man.

Together with other war victims, Danylo Litvinenko is being treated in a specialized rehabilitation center in Lviv. After losing his leg in the war, a soldier learns to walk again with a new prosthesis. “When I stepped on a mine, it was hard to realize that it would also hurt my parents and grandparents. I didn’t cry from the pain, but from the idea of how they would react,” the soldier describes.
The rehabilitation center works with advanced technologies, thanks to which their patients can recover faster. The type of prosthesis that Litvinenko has is made on site using professional equipment from Germany. “I haven’t walked for almost six months, but today I’m finally going to try again. I’m really happy about it,” explains the Ukrainian.
The facility in Lviv has already helped 12,000 people, including 350 children. The Ukrainian army is suffering huge losses, which is also why Litvinenko is determined to return to the fight. “Maybe I don’t run as fast as I used to, but I can still apply myself,” he concludes.
