Former President of the United States Donald Trump should not go to jail, but he should be held accountable for his actions. This was stated by porn actress Stormy Daniels, who is directly involved in the indictment against Trump, which concerns payments to his alleged mistresses before the 2016 presidential election.
“I don’t think his crimes against me are worthy of jail time. I feel like the other things he’s done, if he’s found guilty, certainly are,” the adult film star told British host Piers Morgan in a 1.5-hour interview.
When Morgan asked the 44-year-old porn actress what it was like when Trump appeared in court, she said she was shocked.
“I thought he would get away with it, that he wouldn’t answer. The king was dethroned, he’s no longer untouchable,” said the porn actress, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford. “Nobody should be untouchable, it doesn’t matter what your job description is, even if you’re the president, you should be responsible for your actions,” she added.
The porn actress, who last week postponed an interview citing “security concerns”, said she regularly receives threats from people. She told Morgan that one out of ten messages she gets is a death threat and that they are getting more violent.
“It’s like a suicide bomber. Deep down, they feel like they’re doing the right thing,” said the porn actress. If she is called to testify, she will still look forward to it, she said. “I think if they subpoena me and put me on trial, it legitimizes my story and who I am. And if they don’t, it almost seems like they’re hiding me,” she said.
Manhattan prosecutors say the former president ordered payments to three people before the 2016 election in an effort to silence their allegations of his extramarital affairs. Porn actress Stormy Daniels and model Karen McDougal received a total of $280,000 (roughly six million CZK) from Trump’s allies just before the presidential election. The third payment of $30,000 (CZK 640,000) was for a doorman from Trump Tower who claimed that Trump had an illegitimate child. At the same time, the Republican ex-president faces suspicions that he financed the payments himself, after which he disguised the transactions as “legal expenses”.
Trump’s indictment is the first time a current or former US president has been charged with a crime. Trump, who is the main favorite in the fight for the Republican nomination for the presidential election in 2024, denies the guilt and calls his prosecution a “witch hunt”.
The case is at the beginning of the hearing, the next hearing is not scheduled until December 4. The trial could begin in January of next year, when Trump could officially start his presidential campaign.
